Bowing out

Only managed a 20 min walk/run today and have decided it is time to bow out of Janathon, much as I  love it I have no time to blog.

I am going to carry on with my exercise and every couple of days I will read through others blogs and offer encouragement .

Good luck everyone, keep up the hard work, signing out Lottabottle AKA michelle

Grinning lottabottle

I promised a longer blog today, but I am really tired, I think Janothon has finally caught up with me!!
So very sorry but this is it, got up at 5am and walked my dogs, aqua jogged 10 lengths in the pool and did some core work on a stability ball.

I have spent the rest of the day shadowing a community nurse, which was the best day of my nursing career, so I now want to be a community nurse. Highlight of the day, week, year and nursing journey was being told by such an experienced and respected nurse that I was going to make an excellent nurse and it had been a pleasure for her to work with me.  I seriously look like I have got  a coathanger in my mouth because my smile is that wide, at such amazing praise.

Invisible Instructers

Got up nice and early today to give myself time to defrost my rust bucket car. Only to be sat on my spin bike with 20 other women, (not all on my bike, they had their own) with no bloody instructer. Now I understand that sometimes things happen out of peoples control and I accept that. But I do not accept that the gym knew yesterday that they had no instructer for todays classes and did not have the sense to let us know. So I rallied all the ladies to fill in complaint forms as this has happened before and demand that we get some form of compensation, especially as it seems the gym has lost two instructers this week so there are limited classes available. There was also no pump as that instructer is still off sick, but we had to ask to recieve this information!!!!! I am sure they would have let us traispe up the ruddy stairs and set our stations out if we had not asked.

Anyway after my mini revolt, I couldnt go on the treadmill as my foot is a bit sore after yesterdays outside walk/run so I got in the pool and did 20 lengths.

Then I came home and moaned about it to everyone who would listen.

frozen car

Got up with the intention of going to the gym this morning for a spim/pump/swim session, only to find my car that frozen even the inside windows were iced up. I spent 40 minutes defrosting the car and had to lower the door windows to try and clear them, but for some reason they would not come back up. There was no way I was driving anywhere with my windows down it was -7 and I was already blue from trying to defrost the bloody thing.

I had retired the dogs yesterday so they were no use to me, my bike tyres are flat so that left me with one option. Walk run outside it was, I wrapped up well and set off very tentatively always mindful of my plantar.

#janathon retirement

Got up at 5.30 am with the intentention of going for an early morning gym session, only to find myself stumbling into the wall twice as I was still drunk from the night before. So I got back in bed with a pot of extra strong coffee and finished reading Harry Potter and the secret chambers. Sad I know but I downloaded them all to my Kobo and am really enjoying them. Think it is because every thing else I read is so academic it is nice to just lose yourself in childish fantasy now and then.

Anyway back to todays Janathon effort, I took the dogs for a three mile trek on skipwith common, I enjoyed it but I thnk they have had enough of being dragged for long walks now. Blue is 15 and that is extremeley old for a greyhound and Mindy whilst much younger at 8 is proper lazy. Well today Blue started to really drag behind me at around a mile and Mindy lay down at around 2 miles and wouldnt get back up for about 15 minutes. She is now limping really badly so I think its time to accept that I cant expect them to participate in Janathon any longer. They normally only have a twenty minute amble twice a day and I have been speed walking them for 2-3 miles nearly everyday at all times of the day. So thats them retired from Janathon as of now.

I havent been to the gym today as I am still feeling a bit ropey but I did manage a 35 second plank and 20 chair dips.

Oh yeah, I had a great birthday yesterday, my Uni mates plied me with alcohol and food at lunch time and my family did it all over again later on.

Janathon fail

Overslept this morning so had no time to fit in my Janathon effort, so decided I would call at the gym on my way home from placement.

Went to the Gym straight after finishing placement, only to find I had left my gym bag at home.

Went home to get Gym bag only to find that gym bag was not there! Where the bloody hell is it ?

Recieved phone call to inform me that I seem to have left a Gym bag in the staff room at placement!

Went back to placement, picked up Gym bag set back off to Gym, recieved phone call whilst walking from car telling me I needed to go home because hubby had locked hiself out.

Its just not meant to be today, not to be totally defeated I joined the plankathon and planked for 28 seconds.

Is it 5 or 10

Lengths in a swimming pool, realised today I dont actually know if you count the there and back as one length, or there as one and back as another one?

So I either did five or ten lengths this morning!!!!  I also had a really good session on the treadmill, until one of the people who only ever use a gym in January, thudded on to the one next to me. There are 20 treadmills in the bloody gym, I was on one the other 19 were free. It would not have been as much of a problem had he not stank of meat and potato pie and been swinging his sweaty hair all over me.

I had planned for 40 minute walk run today, but the smell was really that bad I had to get off at 30 minutes.  I had covered 2.26 miles in that time and had increased my running sections to 2 minutes, foot is not hurting any more than usual so I must be doing something right.

So any thoughts, did I do 5 or 10 lengths and should I have sprayed the stinking sweatmonster with deodarant?

Million dollar woman

Blew yesterdays crap day right out the window today, hubby had to be at work for 5am so at 4am we were both up drinking coffee from the new pot that he bought me yesterday afternoon in an attempt to cheer me up. He left for work and I dragged the poor suffering dogs out for an 3 mile walk, I cant imagine how mental we look with hiviz coats on, my headtorch and their flashing collars at 5am on a Sunday morning.

Got home around 6.30 and still had an 2 hours before my gym classes, so I dived into my client files updated them nicely, tidied my desk and read three Journal articles related to the empowerment module I start next week.

Next was my gym classes. spin and pump today, still going easy on my foot so stayed away from the treadmill. The usual Sunday spin instructer was off and to my horror spotted it was the really hardcore million dollar woman one, oh well I did bugger all yesterday!! 45 minutes later looking like a swollen oven baked tomato, drizzled in oil I crawled  ran up the stairs to the fitness suite.

Oh my god, that instructer was missing too and had been substituted with the million dollar woman from the spin class.  Now I have quite a few injuries that my pump instructer knows about and has given me alternative exercises so I dont make anything worse. Which meant I had to approach million dollar woman and tell her about said injuries and why I do alternatives. You will be fine she said, I will give you alternatives too, relief flooded through me and I set my station up.

Well let me tell you, the million dollar woman is as mad as a bucket of frogs, whilst others were doing nice sit ups, (which I can't do because of the bulging discs in my neck) I was forced to rest my forehead on a step bench and do some weird kind of floating plank, then because I can't  lunge/squat due to my plantar she had me balanced on weight plates doing what I can only describe as a pole dance with my weights bar.

But if I am completely honest I felt muscles working that I had forgot existed and I left the gym on an absolute high and will be booking some of her classes from now on. Must remember to place a towel under my head for the floating plank thingy though, as I have indentations on my forehead that are still there 3 hours later!!

Grumpy Cow

I was seriously grumpy yesterday and spent all afternoon in bed sulking because I was grumpy. No reason for it, no-one had pissed me off, I had enjoyed my gym session and both my teens were out!! Anyhow I cracked a smile some time in the late afternoon whilst reading Jogblogs blog (thanks Cathy) and another one later whilst chatting with mydodgyfeet on twitter who suggested I opened wine and then write a blog post. Now I am a viper when I drink and try to avoid talking to anybody because all the nasty snide comments most people think, I say. So whilst imagining writing a blog under the influence, I really cheered up. I went to sleep in a good mood, looking forward to todays spin and aquajog.

Bleurgh, first off I woke up aching all over with a banging head and my foot throbbing, not a good start to the day.  Dropped my coffee pot on the nice tiled kitchen floor, where it shattered into a zillion pieces, then spent ages trying to clear it up. Realised that broken coffee pot, meant I had to resort to instant coffee only to find my ruddy mother had supped all that over christmas.

I stomped to my car to find the side window open and a pool of water in the back, my gym bag soaked and my I-pod frosted over full of condensation.

By the time I had calmed down, routed round for fresh kit for the gym and screamed at my I-pod to work I had missed my spin class. Arrived at the gym to find at least fifteen kids in the changing room, now I chose this gym because kids are not allowed. Dont get me wrong I have kids of my own, but I have never inflicted them on anyone else in areas that I consider to be  for adults; pubs, restaraunts and GYMS. Apparantley on a Saturday members are allowed to bring their offspring in to use the pool FFS, that screwed my plans, there was no way I was getting in a pool full of kids.

So lets sum this up, I ache all over so have no intention of using weights, my foot is sore so cant use the treadmill, the spin class is already in full swing and someone off the reserve list is in my seat and now the pool is full of screaming rugrats!!!!!

Time to go home and get back into bed and sulk all day, only today I think I have bloody good reason to be a GRUMPY COW.  As for Janathon today that consists of a dog drag walk of about a mile because by now I really feel ill and pissed off.

Its a dogs life

I have been up since 3am listening to the wind screeching and shaking my house, seriously wind piss off I need sleep. Anyhow at 5am I could lie in bed no longer so I got up with the intention of taking the pooches on another early morning speed walk, fat chance. They both opened their eyes looked at me in disgust and refused to get off their beds,

.

so I found myself outside the gym at 5.45 waiting for it to open.
I comleted a run walk with 5 minute warm up, 7 intervals of run 60 second, walk 2 minutes and a five minute cool down and covered 2.09 miles and I felt bloody good.  I had a quick swim/ jog and was out of there by 7.30.
Got home and the dogs looked at me again grumbled turned over and went back to sleep again, problem now is, I want to go back to bed and I have a full day of placement/uni work to do. It really is a dogs life!!!

headtorch required

Had a busy day planned so got my janothing in at 6am this morning, armed with my headtorch two greyhounds and my rape alarm(you can never be too careful). The poor dogs were not impressed with being dragged off their beds in the dark and speed walked for half hour in the pouring rain and gales. Quick visit to the gym for a spin/sprint and lovely aquajog and day four is completed, foot is feeling ok today so maybe I havent done to much damage over the last couple of days. Thats it for today's blog, I forgot how hard it is to fit in exercise, logging, blogging, washing and drying kit, plus working and family.

Byee see you tomorrow

1st day back at placement

As I had to be at placement this morning, I went to the gym at 6.30 am. Although I said yesterday that I was going to give my foot a rest and aquajog instead of the run/walk programme that I am following; I ran. I also span and aquajogged and now I am feeling pretty damn stupid because my foot hurts. So tomorrow will just be swimming and spinning, I am not even going to put my running shoes in the bag.

Other than that today has been a really good day, I presented the piece of work I have been doing to my supervisor and mentor and got excellent feedback for it. My supervisor also told me that I am doing excellent with my Individual led practice ( I thought I was making a complete hash of it) so that really made my day. Plus a client I am working with really let me in today, which is the start of building real trust between myself and him which will increase our empathic relationship.

So I reckon I get a gold star for my nursing skills and a big fat booby prize for my  11/2 hr janathoning

Today in numbers:

30 mins, spin
30 mins, run/walk
30 min, aqua jog
24 hours, pain
1 week, big fat grin because maybe I am cut out for this nursing lark

dinner was a disaster

Well I finally got the ruddy pork defrosted, rushed round the shops like a loony because I had no veg cooked it all and then promptly dropped the pork on the kitchen floor. Hubby was well impressed, NOT!!

I have decided to leave the cooking to him as I have better talents, like drinking alcohol and swearing like a trooper.

Today the gym was practically heaving with sweaty people who must have decided exercise was their new years resolution, (I had forgottoen that this happens every bloody year). Hurry up and realise that you do not belong in the gym, you are better suited to exerting yourselves pushing trollies round aldi stuffed with biscuits and chocolate!!

I had to wait fifteen minutes to get on a treadmill FFS, so I attempted to use that stair climbey thing thats a bit like an escalator. Wont make that mistake again, my knees are killing me now.

Finally managed to do a walk/run session where I did 5 sets of walk 2 min run 90seconds plus a five minute warm up either side and managed 1.56 miles, still no excess pain in my foot yippee.

I then joined the spin class with probably the loudest instructer I have ever come across and cried my way through 45 minutes of sheer torture (my arse is on fire from yesterdays audiofuel session).

I went to have a swim but on glancing down on the way to the pool realised my lady garden needed some attention, covered myself and sloped back into the changing room.

The exercise is definetly giving me a mental boost as I came home, finished my reflective piece of writing, tidied up my client files and researched forensics units in preperation for first day back at placement tomorrow.

I think it is now time to get the shears out, as I really need to aqua jog tomorrow, dont want to push my foot too far too soon.

Audiofuel and Janathon go hand in hand

Made the decision to only drink one bottle of wine last night to ensure that I could complete at least one day of Janathon. So at 8am this morning I was stood outside the gym waiting for them to open the doors (lazy sods its usually open at 6am).

Straight on the treadmill for my walk/run comeback with Audiofuels shoot the breeze blasting my eardrums. today consisted of a five minute warm up with 5 intervals of 60 second run and two min walk then a five minute cooldown. As my foot is still dodgy I kept my speed low to lessen the impact and managed a cool 1.12 miles with no pain.

There was not one other person in the gym, which was suprisingly creepy and I nearly fell off the treadmill twice craning my neck to peer round corners looking for signs of life.

I then hopped on a spin bike and decided to give audiofuels powerblast turbo training a go, (downloaded it months ago and never even unpacked it). Oh my giddy aunt!!! I love it, I love it, I bloody love it. Didnt realise it was a full hour though until I tried to peel my arse of the seat and actually screamed as the muscles tensed up, good job there was still nobody else in the gym.

As I was huffing and puffing my way across the room towards the changing room, the token poser/tosser waltzed in covered in water to make it look like he had been working out for hours! He is probably still flouncing about tensing his muscles and staring in the mirror, I dont actually think he does any exercise but he sure as hell loves hiself.

I am now in the process of trying to defrost the pork joint I forgot to take out last night, for todays dinner with my hairdryer on a cool setting. It wouldnt normally matter but my hubby is a chef and I told him I could cook a better roast dinner than him, I should not be allowed to talk after alcohol!

Oh yeah the dogs are joining in again they had a 2 mile walk at 6am

walk/run: 1.12 miles (30 minutes)
dogwalk:  2 miles     (45 minutes)
Spinning: god knows how many miles (1 hour)
